Calcite (Caribbean)

Caribbean Calcite (also known as Ocean Calcite) Caribbean Blue Calcite is a very new combination mineral that was recently found in 2019 in Pakistan. It's a combination of a very light ocean Blue Calcite and light brown and white Aragonite . The stone’s color immediately grasps your attention in addition to the tiny crevices and nodules within its structure (some of these can even have a tiny, druzy coating within). Caribbean Blue Calcite is a one time find and our guess is that it will be mined to extinction within a few years. What is known is that the material is produced by a small number of family-operated businesses in Pakistan itself.

Here the material is generally cut into pillars and spheres for export, which is how it ends up in the hands of mineral and crystal dealers all over the world. Caribbean calcite isn’t suitable for soaking in water or water cleansing. The blue calcite element of this crystal is stable and won’t quickly dissolve in water. However, aragonite is more porous, so contact with water may damage the surface and cause it to look dull. Also, water can get into Caribbean calcite’s crevices and fissures, causing them to weaken.
