Calcite (Zebra Dogstooth)

Zebra Calcite is a calcium carbonate mineral (CaCO₃) belonging to the carbonate mineral group and crystallizing in the trigonal system. Its distinctive black-and- white banded patterns are created by alternating layers of pure calcite and carbonaceous or manganese-rich impurities during crystal formation. This gives the mineral its “zebra” appearance. Zebra Calcite from Pakistan is typically sourced from Balochistan and occurs within limestone cavities or veins in dolostone, often forming massive nodules or polished slabs rather than isolated crystals.
