Kambaba Jasper

Kambaba Jasper is a rare, ancient stone composed predominantly of quartz and fossilized colonies of cyanobacteria known as stromatolites. These organisms are among the earliest life forms to have existed on Earth, meaning this stone holds a direct biological record dating back approximately 3 billion years. Its surface is marked by deep forest green and black swirling patterns, often in concentric or orb-like formations, which reflect the layered growth of the microorganisms fossilized within it. Although commonly classified as a jasper, Kambaba is technically closer to a fossilized sedimentary rock with a rhyolitic base, giving it a unique geological standing. Kambaba Jasper is predominantly found in Madagascar and South Africa, and is sometimes mistakenly associated with similar orbicular jaspers from other regions.

It is often polished to reveal its vibrant, almost reptilian texture—hence the popular nickname Crocodile Jasper. It is also known in some markets as Kabamba Stone, though this name has occasionally been misused to refer to unrelated materials. Due to its fossilized nature and unique appearance, Kambaba Jasper only gained significant popularity in recent decades, largely among collectors, crystal healers, and spiritual practitioners. Its timeless patterns have made it a symbol of Earth’s primordial intelligence, representing survival, deep renewal, and the capacity for life to adapt and thrive across the eons.
