Prophecy Stone
This mineral isn't widely distributed and has a distinctive appearance and composition that make it a subject of fascination among crystal collectors and spiritual seekers. The name and significance of the prophecy stones originate from their perceived supernatural powers. Legend has it that a man who found the stone and slept on it for several days, mysteriously gained the ability to foresee future events. Prophecy Stone is primarily found in the deserts of Egypt, where it is naturally formed under unique geological conditions. These stones are pseudomorphs of limonite and hematite, which have replaced the original marcasite and pyrite minerals.
This replacement process preserves the original crystal structure of the marcasite/pyrite while altering the chemical composition and enhancing the crystal's stability. The result is a dense, often smooth stone with a metallic luster and a dark, rust-like coloration. They come in a variety of interesting shapes and surface textures from spiky to smooth. There may be small nicks on the surface from the extraction process. The Stalactitic Prophecy Stone which we have here today, is named because of it’s look of hanging stalactites.

Geological context
“Prophecy Stone” is a modern trade name rather than an approved mineral species. Specimens sold under this name from Egypt’s White Desert near Farafra are iron-oxide and iron-oxyhydroxide pseudomorphs after earlier iron-sulfide material, commonly described as marcasite or pyrite.
In a pseudomorph, the original mineral is chemically replaced while its external form is retained. The replacement material is commonly described as limonite, hematite or goethite; however, limonite is a field term for a mixture of hydrated iron oxides rather than one mineral with a fixed composition. Precise identification of an individual specimen may therefore require analytical testing.
