Faden Quartz

Faden Quartz is a type of quartz crystal that exhibits a unique feature called a “faden lines” and typically, tabular. Faden Quartz is formed through the healing process of fractures in the Earth’s crust. Through multiple instances of fracturing and subsequent healing, a remarkable phenomenon occurs within the gaseous inclusions crystal, resulting in a distinctive characteristic known as the “faden.” The fadens are formed by the presence of liquid and gas inclusions, leaving behind visible white thread-like structures. The growth process on fractured surfaces of the crystal occurs at a faster rate compared to regular faces.

As a result, small regular faces develop on the opposite conchoidal fracture surfaces, which do not align perfectly. This leads to the inclusion of some of the growth solution within the crystal. In rare cases, the faden may be enveloped by chlorite, providing a stunning visual testament to the fact that a crystal, now exhibiting a flat or platy shape, originated from its earlier form as a thin thread.
