As the pegmatite cools, the mineral-rich fluids within it begin to crystallize, forming distinct minerals like tourmaline.
The growing crystals are influenced by the availability of different elements in the fluids. The incorporation of manganese in the crystal lattice structure results in the vibrant pink to red color of rubellite. The slow cooling process allows tourmaline crystals, including rubellite, to grow to larger sizes compared to other minerals. The growth can take place over millions of years as the pegmatite gradually solidifies. After the initial formation, secondary geological processes like tectonic movements, erosion, and weathering can expose the buried pegmatite veins to the surface.
